Gardening
Two “little birds pitch by my doorstep”. -Bob Marley
It’s getting warmer and naturally, we want to get outside and enjoy the weather, smell the fresh air, and soak in all of the sunshine. With all of that, comes the gardening, which is a difficult job with my front yard that gets hardly any sunlight. There’s patchy grass with weeds everywhere and there are big trees that soak up all the nutrients from the soil.
I decided to dig up around the raised bed at the front because grass was just not going to grow there.
Wheelbarrow to the rescue.
Now, I have to admit, this was not a well-thought out plan but sometimes acting on creative impulse actually works out for the best. I could have used an actual edger for digging up the area but two old shovels did just fine. I wore some latex-free gloves, and I also used my hands to scoop up some of the soil.
The dug-up perimeter.
The big old tree also needed some fixing as the borders that my husband and I placed around it were beginning to move. And in hindsight, it probably was not a good idea for the health of the tree.
Borders were coming off.
I bought some red mulch and placed it in the perimeter. And gave the big old tree plenty of potting soil and top soil to rejuvenate its roots. I don’t know exactly what I’m going to do with the grass but at least I’ve given the area a good start for the warm season!
